I joined the Advent Scarf 2011 Knit-Along on Ravelry. The scarf is made up of 24 different lace patterns with spacers in between. Each day we log in to get our pattern for that day. If I knit each days pattern as soon as it is published, I should be finished by Christmas Eve. I'm using  Lion Brands "LB 1878" yarn. The pattern requires 1,000 yards to make the scarf.  I'm using size 3.5mm knitting

We spent the whole day at the Desert Botanical garden. They were having a great event, "Chiles & Chocolate".  I was taking pictures of a Desert Milkweed plant, which is a  shrub type plant that grows in our desert garden  Lucky for me this adult "Queen" butterfly ignored me and continued to feed on the milkweed plant. Our "Arizona" craft group  attended a Rubber Stamp Conference  this year . There were about thirty different vendors all selling products related to rubber stamping and card making. I was totally overwhelmed.  This is one of the cards that I made at one of the vendors "Make and Take" classes. This is a group shot of the cards that we made in our most recent card making class. At each class our instructor demonstrates how she made each of the five cards. She gives us each a kit with the supplies for the cards and then lets us loose to do our thing. We have a two hour time limit so we work like crazy. This valentine was made  using plain old ordinary  cardstock that I embossed with my Cuttlebug embossing machine.  Can you guess what material I used to make the center of the heart ? I used an aluminum soda pop can from the recycling bin.The aluminum is very thin and cuts easily. This little crazy quilted bear was started as a group round robin project about six years ago. I sewed the front and back together yesterday and finished stuffing her this morning. She’s finished! Thanks to my crazy quilt group for all the work that went into this garden bear. I love it.

   My granddaughter and daughter–in-law created these pumpkins and gave them to me as a gift. They used two very large, glass, pickle jars. When we went to visit Marsha’s Garden this summer, she served a wonderful Chocolate Bug Cakes with Ganache Frosting. I had to try to find a recipe online so I could try it out. I found these caterpillars feasting on some  milkweed plants.   If you look at the leaves in the background  of this picture you will see two more very small caterpillars. One of them was a little more than an inch long and the other one was closer to a half an inch. I’ve been checking on them every day so hope to get some photos of them spinning their cocoon. Had to wait until I was sure that our grandson Jack had received his birthday card before I showed a picture of it. Although his birthday for 2010 is now history, I’m officially offering him an online “HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JACK!” This was the first time I’ve ever combined paper and machine stitching to make a greeting card. I think this is an Eastern Tiger Swallowtail. It must have been quite a site, me with my camera in hand, chasing this large butterfly around the garden. It landed many times but just for a brief moment and then it was off again. While browsing through Ravelry one day, I found this sweater pattern. “Sweet Peasy”, is the name of the pattern. Because I’ve been knitting felted wool projects and using very large needles it was quite an adjustment for me to get back to knitting with size 4 needles.  I’m using stash yarn, hope that explains the boring color. I can’t stop knitting these wine sacks. The knitting is super easy and the felting is fun.   The Wine Sack on the left was finished yesterday. It’s still a little damp, but I pinned the grape leaves and grapes in place so you could see how it will look once it’s finished.  It was a tight fit. I really had to work with the felt to get it to slip over the wine bottle, so note the knitting

Our neighborhood has a weekly gathering for all the women in the community called “Whine and Cheese”.   I was focusing the camera, about to take some pictures of all the pink petunias in my flower bed  for a Pink Saturday post  when I heard him. My bird book describes the sound that a Ruby Throated Hummingbird makes as a  rapid, squeaky, chipping. Also their wing beat is so rapid that it produces a humming sound. These are the flowers that are blooming in my flower beds right now. I love taking pictures of sunsets. Today I'm sharing photos of some of the lithographed pins that I've collected. These are from the 1960's and are marked Japan. I purchased these at antique shops and found some on eBay. My favorites are the butterflies and then the dragonflies. There are a couple of parakeets that I love also. If you click on the picture it will make it bigger.

We've had a little rain lately. Quite a lot of rain, actually and things have started to grow in my lawn. Five years ago there was a very large elm tree growing in this very area. I'm guessing that these toadstools are growing from the decomposing roots of that tree. I've always loved hostas for their beautiful foliage. Because I've never liked the hosta flowers, when they start to bloom, I debate as to weather I should cut off all the flowers, so they don't look so messy, or just let them do their thing. Our county fair has a special division for hosta leaves and flowers and we get lots of entries in both categories. After seeing all those entries

Three grandkids and their mom came for a visit recently. It was the perfect time to give them the new, hand knit, slippers that I made for them and have them pose for a picture. The slippers were knit using some of the acrylic yarn that was a gift from one of my friends. Go here to see the post about the tote of yarn that my friend gave me.
